Roses have been heralded down through history as one of the popular flowers. Everyone from artists to writers to singers, all have created masterworks in praise of the rose. We have found fossil evidence of the rose from 35 million years ago. And roses were cultivated in Asiatic gardens some 5000 years ago. And roses were beloved by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.
Roses have long since become the symbol of affection and love. Although given in bouquets even a single rose of any color has a powerful meaning.
A Single Rose Means…
A single white rose has come to mean purity, innocence and secrecy. It can be uses to show that you feel that your love for the recipient is pure or that you believe them to be pure. White roses also say you are loyal. A white rose can say, “I’m sorry” after a fight or disagreement.
A single yellow rose is a gesture of friendship, joy and happiness. Yellow roses closely associated with sunlight and warmth can say, “I am happy and I love you.” A gift of a single yellow rose is a great way to say, “Get Well Soon” or “Welcome Back!” or “We missed you”.
A single peach rose is used to send a message of appreciation or thanks. A single peach rose can say that you really appreciate someone being in your life or that you are glad that they are a member of your team or staff. A single peach rose is a simple way to say “Thank You”.
A single lilac or lavender rose expresses infatuation. Lilac roses express feelings of delight, infatuation or being overcome by adoration. So if you want to tell someone that you have fallen in love at first sight, then send him/her a single purple rose.
A single pink rose is a refined way of saying “Thank you”. A single pink rose sends the message that indicates the recipient has grace, gentleness and is joy to be around.
A single black rose says ‘We’re Done!’ or “it’s over”. A fairly dramatic way to end a relationship since represents death and loss.
A Long-stemmed Rose
A single long-stemmed rose, affirms that the recipient is never far way in your thoughts, and says, “You are always on my mind” or “You are remembered”. A long-stem yellow rose says, “Welcome Back!” while a red rose would signal a loving obsession.

A short-stemmed rose is a mark of innocence and sweetness or childhood. Single rosebuds have a similar meaning.
