No woman can really resistant a gift of light pink roses. Pink roses tell her that she is deeply loved and held in appreciation by the sender. A bouquet of light pink roses sends a message of love, affection and gratitude to that special someone.

Light pink roses have been a part of Mankind’s history for a long time. It has been said that light pink roses came into being when they “blushed” with shame when God cast out Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Ancient artwork and pottery pieces have been found with carefully detailed pictures of pink roses on them.

Light Pink Roses from China

The dominate color of all wild roses are pink roses. Pink roses are thought to be one the first rose bushes to evolve. Chinese and other Asiatic gardeners have been growing roses from over 5000 years so it was no surprise when the first modern pink rose to be imported into Europe came from China in the 1700’s. Several Chinese hybrids became very popular including on call “old blush”.

But it was French Empress Josephine, mostly known for her frivolous and spendthrift ways; that make rose growing a passion. From 1803-1814, she took great interest in the growing and breeding of roses. Her gardens became a famous haven for rose enthusiasts from all over Europe (in between the Napoleonic Wars of course). In her honor, a light pink rose were introduced in 1820, which is named after her.

Chinese hybrids such as “old blush” and “bourbons” became very popular throughout Europe. While these hybrids had ugly funny shaped blossoms and long skinny stalks and very sharp, hooked barbs, they were repeat bloomers.

Unlike the native European roses which only bloomed once a year, these Asian light pink roses had several bloom bursts a season. This alone guaranteed them a place in many home gardens.

Very quickly rose cultivators corrected the hooked barbs, and malformed heads to create a uniform flower with a more varied color range.
