Roses and Their Meaning
Roses have always been valued both for their beauty and their symbolism. Since the time of the ancient Greeks and the Roman Empire, roses and their meaning played a major part in festivals for both cultures for the “goddess of love”, Aphrodite.
One Greek’s myth states the rose was so powerful a symbol that when Aphrodite gave a rose to her son, Eros, the god of love, that he used it to bribe Harpocrates, the god of silence in order to keep Aphrodite’s indiscretions secret.
In turn the Romans would lay a rose across the door of a room to signify that everything spoken within was to be held in secret or “sub rosa”. The term sub rosa literally means “under the rose” and denotes things held in confidence, even to this day.
Knowing each rose and their meaning is both fun and useful. You can easily send the flower as a gesture of your love or affection but by choosing the proper color you can also add a deeper symbol of your emotions.

They are traditionally associated with weddings, and other new beginnings, like “The slate is wiped clean.” This rose can also represent honor, respect or remembrance. A mixed bouquet of white and red roses is a sign of unity or togetherness.
Pink Roses - Gentility, femininity, grace and refinement are the deep means of the pink rose. This rose is can be given as a gesture of admiration or appreciation or simple heartfelt joy and happiness.
Yellow Roses - Yellow has always been the color of the sun and of warmth and happy feelings. These roses often given to those who are close to us, for these roses symbolize joy, delight and true friendship. These bright vibrant roses have also come to mean “Welcome Back”, “Promise of a New Beginning”, or “Remember Me?”
Orange Roses - This color is a sign of desire or enthusiasm. Orange roses with their blazing color schemes, point to intense passion or excitement or a longing for an ardent romance.
Lavender (Purple) Roses - A rare and unique color the lavender rose is a sign of love at first sight! They are the fairy tale rose and symbolize an enchantment and instant fascination with the other party.
